Fond Chant narrow shawl

Occasional pull out of alignment in the ground. Some splitting in the band joins. The thread seems to be black silk.

Fond Chant stitch ground, halfstitch motifs with gimp, small honeycomb fillings. Some point ground in a few motifs. Finished on all sides. Made in five strips attached together - interesting separation of the bottom strip in the lower photo.
Plate 213 in Ricci "Old Italian Lace" shows a similar 'bib' of ivory-tinted silk from the Ligurian Coast, labeled "Imitation of Mechlin lace". It doesn't seem to have much to do with Mechlin, although the clothwork might be whole statich and there is a gimp.
